Building Futures, Swiss-Style: How Apprenticeships Shape Long-Term Careers at Husky

At Husky Technologies™, investing in early talent is more than just a value, it’s a proven formula for success. And there’s no better place to see it in action than at our Diessenhofen campus in Switzerland, where apprenticeships are a launchpad for meaningful careers.

Just ask Martin Bollinger, who joined Husky as an apprentice in 2000 and has grown with the company over the years. After completing the program, Martin worked in multiple roles within manufacturing, eventually becoming a Project Engineer. He’s the perfect example of how strong foundations lead to long-term success.

“I started here as a teenager, and I’ve grown and developed at Husky ever since,” Martin shares. “The apprenticeship gave me technical skills as well as the confidence to build a career.”

How It Works: The Swiss Apprenticeship Model

The apprenticeship program at Husky Switzerland follows the Wibilea model: a highly respected Swiss dual-education path that blends school learning with hands-on industry training.

This program spans four years and in the first two years, students train at Wibilea, focusing on foundational skills in mechanics, engineering and manufacturing practices in a classroom setting. In their third and fourth years, they join the Husky team, rotating through various departments to understand the full production process. In the final year, each apprentice specializes in one area and prepares for their final exam in May.

This model gives young professionals a deep foundation in both hard skills like precision machining, inspection and process control as well as soft skills like collaboration, communication, and adaptability.

Meet Julia and Leo: Apprentices in Action

Julia and Leo are now in their fourth and final year of the program at Husky: Julia specializes in Quality, while Leo focuses on Soft Turning. Both started with two years of classroom training before stepping into real-world responsibilities.

“In the beginning, you’re focused on the basics,” says Julia. “But once you get to Husky, you start applying what you’ve learned and really begin to grow, both in your role and in your confidence.”

They’re not treated like trainees; they’re seen as team members.

We’re treated like real colleagues,” Leo says. “There are expectations, and we have responsibility. That’s how we learn and contribute.”

Their work builds character as well as products.

“Discipline, resilience, and the ability to produce high-quality work even under pressure. Those are habits I’ll take with me everywhere,” Leo shares.

What’s Next?

After completing her apprenticeship, Julia will stay at Husky: a natural next step in a journey she’s proud of.

“We’re part of a great team here. I feel ready, and I want to keep growing at Husky.”

Leo, meanwhile, is preparing for a very different challenge: Switzerland’s mandatory military service, followed by an opportunity to join the Vatican Guard, a dream career that comes with a new uniform!

“Even if I change directions, the skills I’ve learned here: problem-solving, focus and doing things right—will always stay with me.”

Why Switzerland Does It Best

Both Julia and Leo agree there’s something special about learning in Switzerland.

“The standards are really high,” Julia says. “You don’t just get a certificate; you build skills you can take anywhere.”

“If you want to understand how good it is,” Leo adds, “you have to come here and experience it.”

From Training to Tenure: What We’ve Learned

Whether it’s a four-year apprenticeship or a career that spans decades, the stories coming out of our Diessenhofen campus reflect what Husky is all about: creating opportunities for people to grow, contribute, and thrive. The success of our apprenticeship program lies not only in the knowledge shared, but in the culture; it builds—one where mentorship, hands-on learning, and mutual respect create long-lasting impact.

From Martin’s evolution into a seasoned project engineer, and Julia’s transition into a full-time role, to Leo’s future shaped by the discipline he’s gained at Husky, it’s clear that their experiences reach far beyond the classroom or shop floor.

“The people you start with often become the colleagues you grow with,” Martin reflects. “That kind of journey is rare and really meaningful.”

At Husky, we don’t just build machines. We build people, potential and a future powered by purpose.
