Three Generations, One Legacy: 35 Years of Change at Husky

At Husky Technologies™, some careers are more than jobs – they are legacies. For Kevin McLean, now Advantage+ Software Delivery Manager in Bolton, that legacy spans 35 years, dozens of roles, and three generations of family. His story is one of constant growth, deep roots, and the kind of change that moves both people and technology forward.

A Family Legacy Begins

Kevin’s Husky story begins before his own first day. His mother, Barbara McLean, joined the company in the mid-1980’s. Her very first job? Taking employee ID badge photos, including one for the CEO on her second day. When the camera glitched, she spent ten unexpected minutes troubleshooting it with him. “Not a bad way to meet the top boss,” Kevin jokes.

Soon after, his brother Derek took a summer job in Machines Shipping and Receiving around 1987. “He was only here for six months,” Kevin says, “and people still ask me about him 20 years later!”

His sister Michelle worked in the Machines café, and his daughter Kyara joined the Finance team during the Year-End crunch in 2019 and 2020 to help process AP.   Now, in 2025, Kevin’s son Saulius has joined the team too, making it three generations of McLeans at Husky.

“My dad never worked at Husky,” Kevin laughs. “He always said, ‘I wouldn't survive all that barking with all those dogs.’”

From Student Hire to Strategic Leader

Kevin officially joined Husky in 1990, after graduating from university. Compared to the slow-paced summer jobs he had before, the energy at Husky was electric.

“It was fast. No downtime. It was go-go-go and I loved it.”

That pace matched his drive, and over the years, he’s moved fluidly across departments and disciplines, embracing each new opportunity:

  • Software Control Engineering
  • Engineering Manager for Production Engineering
  • Service Manager
  • Operations Manager for Bolton's Components Facility
  • Global Quality Manager for Machines
  • Finance (yes, just like his mom!) – but they never let me near the “beans”!
  • And now driving innovation as part of the Digital Solutions Team (DST), enhancing Advantage+™.

“Every role taught me something. Whether it was a new system, a new way to solve a problem, or just a better way to collaborate – I’ve never stopped growing.

Adapting Through the Ages

Back when Kevin started, there was no email, just phones with cords and paper bulletins on corkboards. “If you wanted to reach a group, you posted a note; with your manager’s approval, of course.”

Today, information is everywhere, and Kevin believes that learning is now a daily choice.

“You must stay curious. Technology evolves. Tools change. But if you keep learning and adapting, it always stays exciting.

For Kevin, the core of Husky has not changed. It is still about people working together, solving problems, and driving progress.

“The only constant at Husky,” Kevin says, “is change.”

A Legacy That Moves Forward

What Kevin values most after three and a half decades is the shared purpose, the freedom to innovate, and the spirit of teamwork that fuels every success.

With the next generation of McLeans now part of the journey, Kevin’s story isn’t just about career longevity; it’s about growth, resilience, and shaping the future of technology—while staying true to the people-first culture that makes Husky feel like home.
