Job Description

As part of our PET Beverage Packaging team, the Application Engineer will provide technical expertise to support Project Engineers in defining solutions and assessing risks for applications that fall outside standard guidelines. The role focuses on evaluating technical feasibility and managing associated risks. These assessments form the foundation for customer contract negotiations and must be validated internally (e.g., in-house testing) and externally (e.g., customer site trials). Additionally, the Application Engineer provides processing and application behavior predictions to support internal validation teams, guiding testing strategies and ensuring alignment between predicted and actual performance outcomes.

  • Translate plastic part drawings into steel part drawings for manufacturing execution
  • Identify and communicate risks when designs deviate from standard guidelines, escalating to leadership when necessary
  • Assess product performance (cycle time, injectability, dimensional tolerances, capability indices)
  • Support new product development for niche or special applications
  • Ensure compatibility and interchangeability across tooling generations and injection machines
  • Evaluate inquiry feasibility and identify potential risks
  • Provide performance commitments to support business growth
  • Develop and communicate mitigation plans and recommendations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Machines, Power Train, Advanced Engineering, etc.) to fully understand solution boundaries.
  • Lead design reviews and concurrent engineering meetings as needed
  • Prepare and deploy project charters to raise awareness of risks and ensure proper execution steps
  • Prepare solution-specific test plans, including technical configuration and customer application requirements
  • Support Operations in complex project execution and feedback loops
  • Participate in or lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with Development Engineering on new product inquiries
