Challenge Accepted:
Nicolas Barelli’s Journey of Endurance and Purpose

From answering a LinkedIn job posting to driving complex project timelines

In 2023, Nicolas Barelli came across a job opportunity at Husky while browsing LinkedIn. With a background in the automotive industry, he decided to apply. A few months later, he joined the team in Luxembourg as a Master Scheduler.

This role involves overseeing project planning from a high-level perspective, making sure internal capacities align with timelines and guiding the project from kickoff all the way through to final delivery.

"I enjoy seeing the whole picture," Nicolas explains. "We follow a project from the very beginning to the end. It is about keeping everything aligned and making sure everyone is moving in the same direction."

That mindset extends far beyond his work life.

A lifelong passion for teamwork and physical challenge

Sport has always been a big part of Nicolas’s life. As a child and teenager, he was a competitive swimmer. Later, he shifted his focus to water polo, a team sport that demands both physical endurance and close coordination.

Today, he trains regularly in CrossFit. But one of his most intense passions is something few people even know exists: military-style simulation operations, known as OPs.

Living the mission: pushing limits with purpose

These simulations place small teams into rugged environments where they carry out strategic missions for several days at a time. The participants are outdoors for four days, carrying heavy gear, navigating terrain at high altitude, and completing objectives while dealing with weather, fatigue, and minimal resources.

"You have to adapt to a lot of things at once. There is no clean water, no mobile connection, and all you get is a compass and UTM coordinates. It is demanding both physically and mentally."

During a recent operation in Portugal, Nicolas fell seriously ill just days before departure. But instead of backing out, he chose to go.

"I did not want to let my team down. We were two groups of four, and only four people made it to the end. I was one of them."

The teams walked about 50 kilometers across four days, carrying 16-kilogram backpacks. The weather was unpredictable, the terrain was steep and the conditions were rough. But for Nicolas, quitting was never an option.

"We pushed ourselves to the finish line, not just to say we completed it, but to make sure we did it well."

The same mindset at work

For Nicolas, the connection between these extreme challenges and his work at Husky is clear.

"You need structure, mental focus and teamwork. That is exactly what we need in a project environment too. Everyone must understand their role, support each other, and adapt to changes without losing momentum."

This ability to stay composed under pressure, keep moving forward and stay connected to a bigger purpose is part of what makes Nicolas such a valued member of the team.

Where performance meets purpose

Since joining Husky in 2023, Nicolas has brought that same energy and discipline to every project. Whether he is planning schedules or hiking through fog-covered trails at 1,500 meters, his focus stays the same: give your best, help your team and keep moving forward.

At Husky, we are proud to have people like Nicolas who bring their full selves to work with drive, courage and a commitment to doing things the right way.
