Key Requirements

Understanding the logic and functionality behind CNC machines to provide information in proper sequence in an increasingly automated environment. Assisting in programing maintenance and troubleshooting to support the closed-loop process.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/Areas of Accountability:

  • Oversight of design rules and models using CAD/CAM system and custom software
  • Deep knowledge of automation, custom order requirements & data flow
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM/Fixture Design
  • Work with customized templates for automated part-programming based on a set of predefined programming rules
  • UADM familiarity (i.e., feedback given to the system upon program completion)
  • Manage design rules and model 
  • Ensure closed-loop process
  • Leads, structures and performs programming troubleshooting on a wide range of numerical control equipment. 
  • Lead and perform troubleshooting to generate multiple hypotheses regarding the causes of a problem by employing methodical, logical approaches to problem solving
  • Develops programming congruent with interfaces and line automation requirements (E.g., can design EDM electrodes for PT & closures)


Knowledge of the operational processes

  • Understand order of operations and support quality fixturing
  • Understand design and manufacturing processes for ease of manufacturability 
  • Create best practices on rare or newly encountered features 
  • Prepare job documentation for new/modified jobs and tool testing
  • Complete understanding of machine programming and capabilities
  • Interacts with Designers and Manufacturing Technicians to make sure developed processes are manufacturing friendly 
  • Analyze and adjust the structure and functionality of models for accurate programming
  • Ensures activities are aligned to mission-critical priorities by understanding and implementing activities that align to the bigger picture objectives (e.g., cost, quality, speed, etc.)
  • Identifies and drives continuous improvement initiatives & reviewed controlled processes for implementation


Manage small task related projects 

  • Adopts continuous improvement programs
  • Monitor and update the programming rules in collaboration with Development and Manufacturing Engineering
  • Pull and understand necessary data from tool library (as needed)
  • Patch up and make repairs to programming as needed, especially for larger initiatives Implements continuous improvement programs & documents controlled process upon approval
  • Champions EH&S guidelines and safety principles and encourages team members to follow, enhance and develop safety standards. Serves as a role model for team members
  • Develops and enhances solutions to enable adoption of changes to the organization
  • Interact with operators to ensure processes are manufacturing friendly
  • Interact with designers and key points of contact on manufacturability issues
  • Interact with programmers in other locations (Bolton/Lux) for global process standardization
  • Act as ‘gatekeeper’ of information
  • Participate in Manufacturing Review meetings and/or Design Review meetings to support design for manufacturability.

CRITICAL CAPABILITIES

  • Fully understands design requirements and how to leverage existing tools, processes and automation technologies to create quality outputs (i.e., programs) first time with little guidance. 
  • Ability to interpret data to improve accuracy, relevancy and collection methods.
  • Ability to apply process-oriented approach across an array of situations to enhance processes based upon data and presented evidence.
  • Ability to apply a comprehensive understanding of ISO codes (G&M) to ensure machines meets required standards.


REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

  • Minimum post-secondary diploma in a related field (i.e. Mechanical Engineering Technologist, Manufacturing Engineering, etc.) preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Approx. 3 years or more in a manufacturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tooling/fixture design preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD/CAM software skills (e.g., Unigraphics) and Verification Software skills (e.g., Vericut), and is able to diagnose, troubleshoot and make corrections to most models when possible (e.g., change features in bridge, fix geometry. etc).
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of GD&T (G&M codes) and the correlation between machine and controls.
  • Demonstrates understanding of implications of design and manufacturing processes on CNC programming when necessary.
