Job Description
Role Overview:
Within the Rigid Packaging Business Unit, specifically in the PET-based Beverage Packaging segment, the Application Designer serves as a key technical interface between Sales Support, Global PET Production Engineering, and Product Development.
The Application Designer is responsible for developing optimal application solutions tailored to customer requirements, ensuring adherence to design guidelines or integrating deviations into a structured risk management approach.
This role is central to the technical review process at the inquiry stage and spans from designing the plastic preform to creating its digital twin for manufacturing. It includes steel preform design, application transfer modeling (CamSim), and may extend to performance and mechanical feasibility assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design plastic preforms and threads using CAD automation tools, ensuring alignment with customer specifications
• Translate plastic part drawings into steel part drawings for manufacturing execution
• Identify and communicate risks when designs deviate from standard guidelines, escalating to leadership when necessary
• Commit to application performance and quality standards
• Prepare mitigation plans to ensure performance and quality targets are met
• Collaborate closely with Sales, Production/Development Engineering, Manufacturing, and Test Room teams to ensure product offerings meet customer expectations
• Lead or contribute to projects focused on developing automated tools and design guidelines to improve lead time
• Support technical assessments of application feasibility and performance
• Develop and maintain application transfer models (CamSim) as part of the digital twin process

Technical Skills & Qualifications:
• Proficient in Unigraphics CAD software; capable of working with complex models using sketches and expressions
• Strong spoken and written English communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Programming knowledge in MS Excel is an asset
• Self-disciplined and professional; able to work autonomously
• Familiarity with Data Science tools (e.g., MATLAB, Power Query) is a plus
Education & Experience:
• Education: Engineering degree or diploma, or equivalent experience
• Experience: Minimum 2 years in the plastics industry, preferably in application or tooling design
