Congressman Peter Welch visits Husky Milton – praises energy efficiency success
Acting Director of the Council on Environmental Quality and Congressman Welch tour Husky facility to view environmental efforts first-hand
BOLTON, Ontario - Husky Injection Molding Systems today announced a tour of its Milton, Vermont manufacturing facility by Congressman Peter Welch; the Acting Director of the Council on Environmental Quality, Mike Boots; and Efficiency Vermont Account Manager Greg Baker. Congressman Welch and Director Boots visited Husky’s Milton manufacturing plant with Efficiency Vermont, an organization that works with companies around the state to streamline their operations, discussing various energy efficiency projects Husky has implemented over the past decade.
Husky Milton implements successful energy efficiency projects, saving over $200,000 annually
Husky has a track record of implementing energy efficiency projects that work; saving approximately $2 million in the last decade via energy saving measures alone. "Husky is a concrete example of the best argument for energy efficiency initiatives," Congressman Welch said after touring Husky’s Vermont facility. "Two million dollars, that's persuasive. That's the language of the bottom line."
Some of the most notable projects executed successfully in Milton include:
Central Machine Coolant System Tuning
- Studied and adjusted pressure setting to minimize pump outputs on system
- Saved $110K and 1,200,000 kWh annually
Off Hours Machine Shutdown
- Replaced 530 metal halide high bay fixtures with fluorescent fixtures
- Saved $66K and 1,000,000 kWh annually
- Studied utility usage on machines while idle, e-stopped and shut down to determine impact when not in use on weekend nights
- Saved $36K and 600,000 kWh annually
“It is an honor to be recognized by the local community for our energy saving efforts,” said Geoff Glaspie, Plant Manager at Husky Milton. “Husky is an organization that prides itself on living our core value of environmental responsibility. To be acknowledged by the government for our commitment to the environment goes a long way towards making people feel good about working here, and helps Husky feel like a welcomed member of the community.”
“Some of the hallmarks of the ‘Husky culture’ include proactive environmental responsibility, engineering excellence, business transformation and continuous improvement,” said John Ferraro, Husky’s Director of Environment, Health and Safety. “We live these values every day by prioritizing energy efficiency improvement initiatives such as the ones highlighted at our Milton plant. In total, Husky has executed 241 energy efficiency improvement projects over six Husky campuses, and we will continue to make our environmental efforts a top priority.”
