Husky expands PET services to support thread conversion and refurbishment projects
For release 2007-10-24
DÜSSELDORF, Germany – Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. today announced the expansion of its mold conversion and refurbishment services, with a US$10 million capital investment and the continued growth of its dedicated team of mold conversion and refurbishing experts. These enhancements have been made to further support preform manufacturers in their efforts to convert to new, lightweight threads.
“We needed to convert to a lighter thread quickly, without any impact on quality or productivity,” said Thomas Francis, Chief Executive Officer, Southeastern Container, Inc. “We recognize Husky as a leader in lightweighting and the only preform mold manufacturer with the capacity to handle the number of molds we have in operation. Southeastern is confident that, with Husky’s help, our conversion process will continue to be quick and seamless.”
Husky is the world’s largest provider of mold conversion services. With this additional capacity, customers will be able to more rapidly convert to the new lightweight designs and realize a quicker financial return. With brand owners unwilling to accept preforms with a mixture of old and new threads, in most cases, it will be necessary for Husky’s customers to convert multiple molds at once. Husky has the capacity to manage even the largest conversion and refurbishment programs.
In addition, Husky’s industry leading network of refurbishing centers enables customers to quickly and easily convert or refurbish their molds, regardless of their location. In addition to its two primary centers in Canada and Luxembourg, Husky has established satellite refurbishing centers in Buffalo, NY, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, China and Japan, which provide access to local mold maintenance, conversion and refurbishing support. Prototyping laboratories located in Canada, Luxembourg and Shanghai are able to assist customers in lightweighting their preform designs. Husky also plans to open additional satellite centers in Russia and India.
Preform manufacturers are increasingly looking to convert to new lightweight threads immediately because of the substantial return on investment it represents. Husky has already participated in the conversion of more than 18,000 cavities for a variety of thread sizes. It has also helped customers to incorporate body lightweighting during the thread conversion process to help maximize their results.
“Husky recognizes the opportunity that lightweight threads present to our customers,” said Jeffrey MacDonald, Husky’s Vice President of Beverage Packaging. “The investments we have made ensure that when customers make the decision to lightweight, we have the people and equipment in place to make the process simple and fast.”
