    • Mold conversions made easy with Husky's Flex Mold

      DÜSSELDORF, Germany – Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. today announced the launch of Flex Mold, an innovative, modular, low cavitation PET preform mold that allows customers to reduce both conversion costs and mold change-over time.

      Flex Mold’s modular design reduces the number of components that need to be replaced when changing from one preform to another, saving time and money. The bodies of the cavities can be changed while the tapers and gate pad remain in the mold. This has an added benefit of eliminating the need to cool down and reheat the hot runner which further reduces the time required for a conversion.

      “Flex Mold provides many benefits during conversions. These benefits include eliminating the need for hot runner cool down, minimizing the number of components to be changed and the ability to easily accommodate all preform lengths,” said Jeffrey MacDonald, Husky’s Vice President of Beverage Packaging. “With the introduction of Flex Mold, we are better aligning Husky’s proven capability in preform systems with producers of lower volume, custom preforms and bottles.”

      Husky’s CoolPik post mold cooling provides the flexibility to accommodate any preform length with a simple adjustable positioning feature.Flex Mold is available in either eight or 16 cavities, which will accommodate preforms with threads up to 63mm or 43mm diameter respectively.

      Progressive Plastics in Cleveland, Ohio was one of the first customers to integrate the Flex Mold system and they anticipate that it will help them break into new market segments. “Flex Mold is a perfect fit for our new energy-efficient HyPET injection molding machine,” said Tony Busa, President of Progressive Plastics. “This breakthrough allows us to pursue many niche and developmental projects, that were previously not financially feasible.”
