Bolton, Ontario — Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed John Galt, currently Vice President, Operations and Chief Operating Officer (COO), as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Galt, 45, succeeds Robert Schad, 76, who founded Husky in 1953. Mr. Schad will continue serving the company as a Director and advisor on technology development and strategy.
"Having worked closely with John for most of his 20-year career at Husky, I have watched him develop into a highly respected leader," Mr. Schad said. "His professionalism and passion for quality, cost efficiency and best practices have had a major impact on our operations. As COO, he directed the methodical and disciplined rollout of our new product platform, which is the foundation of our expansion into new markets. While based at our European campus in Luxembourg, he led a major initiative to restructure the operations, put in place a new leadership team and drove aggressive growth for the hot runners business. John believes in our culture and values, and I have every confidence that he is the right person to lead the change that is necessary to take Husky to the next level."
"Robert Schad has been the CEO and architect of Husky's growth for over 50 years," Robert Gillespie, Chairman of Husky's Board of Directors, said. "His entrepreneurial drive, visionary thinking and passion for excellence have built the company into a global leader in the injection molding industry. Robert has also been a pioneer in areas such as corporate environmental responsibility and innovative people management long before they became widely accepted. At the same time, we are very pleased that Robert has such a strong successor. John will now have the opportunity to build on Husky's strengths and solid foundation, and he does so with the full support of the Board."
"Succeeding Robert Schad, our founder, is a tremendous responsibility," Mr. Galt said. "I would like to thank Robert, the Board of Directors and all of the people at Husky for their confidence and support. While our industry is currently facing many challenges, I am excited to have the opportunity to guide the company and I have great confidence in Husky's future."
Since joining Husky in 1985, Mr. Galt has held a number of progressive positions in engineering, manufacturing and customer service, including General Manager of Husky's North American machines business (1997-1999), Vice-President, Engineering (2001-2003), and Vice President, Operations and COO (2002-2005). In addition to his extensive business experience, Mr. Galt holds a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from Ryerson Polytechnical University.
